Computer Repair Tools - Great Free Software Tools

Computer Repair Tools

The best computer repair tools are either free or open source software. These tools are as good and sometimes better than their commercial counterparts. I will list several that I use almost daily to keep my computers running at their optimum. The first tool is Partimage, which I use to quickly restore Windows in just a few minutes. As Partimage restores the Windows partition it completely resets the partition as if it were just formatted with a brad new operating system just installed and with all the needed drivers and security patches installed. This saves a lot of valuable time and keeps the computers running at their peak performance. The next tool is GParted, which is a partition utility that can create and resize any partition without destroying the data. This tool is very fast and very handy. The next tool is nLite which I use to create a custom automated install disks that contain all needed drivers, service packs, security patches, tweaks, and many other custom settings that can save lots of time. The next tool is ZoneAlarm firewall, which will stop any attempts of outbound or inbound traffic that is not authorized. It even checks for program changes and stops them without your ok. It has a free basic version that I use. The next tool is AVG anti-virus free for personal use. It is better than Norton or McAfee and it will not hurt performance and it will stop any of the latest viruses. Linux Slax Live CD is very handy for creating your own custom LiveCD tool with all your favorite tools installed and ready to use. Also BartPE is a nice tool for creating a Windows PE version where you can install Windows OS compatible tools. I also use Adaware from LavaSoft to remove spyware and data mining programs. Abexo is a nice tool for helping to maintain the registry. Smart Defrag is great for keeping your hard drive defragged as it works in the background automatically. There are many more that I use less frequently but still find very useful. You should check out the user reviews and obtain free downloads at download.CNET.com.

You can also find more detailed information on all the tools I use at Computer Repair Training Plus where I also have links to several YouTube videos.
