Computer Repair Technician

The computer repair technician is again in great demand today. Computer technology is still advancing at a fast rate as it tries to keep up with all the consumer demands. Video Gaming is still putting the greatest pressure on the technology and new games are coming frequently. Who knows where this will all lead, but computer robotics has become main stream at all major college campuses. The Roomba has become very important in our house and we have 3 working every other day to keep our house spotless. (I love technology...and so does my wife.) Robotics is just one of many areas that is benefiting from this technology. We have also seen some big strides is computer added design and manufacturing. Rapid prototyping has recently become more popular because of the reduced cost of equipment. I am now teaching a class where the students can design a new product and create a working prototype the same day using 3D printing technology. This alone has the potential to revolutionize manufacturing in the US.

Most new computer technicians will need a certification for entry level work. The best stater cert is the CompTIA A+. This cert is recognized world wide and is a must now for starting techs. Community colleges, trade schools, regional occupation centers, and even some universities offer A+ computer repair courses for the new technician. I would suggest if you have some experience you might just take a cert prep class or pick up a test prep book, such as, ExamCram. These classes or books will help you get ready for the test and also teach areas that you might need some help in.

Almost companies are again hiring computer technicians as the economy is starting to show some signs of improvement. Technology buying will continue and companies are well aware of the need to stay up to date. The Craig's List is a very good resource for finding part-time and temp work. Most of my students are taking part-time or temp assignments which convert quickly into full-time work while they are picking up some valuable experience from these assignments.

Computer technology is now apart of everyones life and the need for computer repair technicians will continue to out pace most any other field as this important technology continues to evolve.
